I think the problem we should have about Herman Cain is his proclivity to cast himself above reproach. Aspersions have been made against his character, and even if they may or may not be true, his cavalier attitude towards them continues to baffle, and stab straight through to the heart of doubt.
I can't possible know what the truth is through all of this, or how little or how much biased hysteria is driving the media, and as such, our tentative knowledge of events. This said, his immature reasoning that there was no sexual harassment, then there was, but they were lies and so on and so forth puts a wary eye on his obligation to the truth
His web site lists how erroneous it is to even consider these charges when there are so many "real" problems plaguing the nation. This sounds like to me that what he's saying is these are not real charges against me, just made-up fabrications, but if they are real then I didn't do them, and so what if there are women who made these charges against me, you should just push them aside because even if they're true the nation needs me to solve its problems.
The other problem that bothers me is his personal demeanor of which flies to the heart of reasonable assumption. His own people, those who are working hard to elect this man, make frequent remarks of being told not to talk to him unless spoken to. By his own admission he proudly lays claim to the internal slogan of "Let Herman be Herman". Herman it would seem is a figure who places himself above those around him, a man who feels privilege above others, and ultimately a man who even if he did make a sexual overture, even in jest, would feel like "...so what", I'm Herman, I can do what I want."
Let's not also forget the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. Then President Clinton repeatedly claimed that nothing had transpired between him and Monika Lewinsky. I understand this lie, this kind of lie. No one wants to be put in this position, especially in front of the entire world, I don't take to task President Clinton over this, I would have done the same. I seem to remember the Conservatives as well as some liberals calling for his impeachment, now remember, this for something that happened between 'consenting' adults. There was no sexual harassment involved.
I'm am sure that Herman Cain did remember these charges against him, and while the most recent ones may or may not be real, there are at least two that were made and paid away, I'm sure he thought, to obscurity.
